Belichick says McDaniels ‘an asset'

Bill Belichick wouldn't tip his hand on how he plans to use Josh McDaniels' expertise against McDaniels' former team this Saturday or what McDaniels' role will be in 2012."I've enjoyed our conversations the last couple days," Belichick said on a Monday afternoon conference call. "We've got caught up on some things. As we move forward into the playoffs, I think he'll be a good asset to our team for the remainder of the season. We'll deal with next year, next year."McDaniels' hiring was made official Sunday night. His title is "offensive assistant." That he climbs aboard for the postseason when the Broncos - who McDaniels coached in 2009 and for 12 games in 2010 - are heading to Foxboro has bunched some panties. But it's all above board with the league. Whether McDaniels will be above field level and watching Saturday's game from the press box or down on the sidelines hasn't been established yet. "I think he can help us in a lot of different ways; not sure exactly how all that will pan out," Belichick said.Belichick said that McDaniels' relationship with outgoing offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien is "very, very good.""It's good to have Josh on the staff," said Belichick. "He's a person I've spent a lot of different time with, in a lot of different situations, and I have a lot of confidence in him," Belichick said. "He's smart, has great experience and background, and he knows our system."
