Defensive lineman Marcus Benard showed flashes in training camp of being able to provide some pass rush, but according to our pals at Pro Football Talk, he will be one of the players cut by the Patriots as New England makes its way down to 53 players by Saturday afternoon’s deadline.

Benard had 11 sacks in 2009 and 2010 for the Browns, but a motorcycle crash in October 2011 derailed his career.

He signed a future contract with New England in January, but didn't offer the Patriots enough value to keep him for the final 53.

The Patriots also cut tight ends Daniel Fells and Jake Ballard on Thursday, meaning their roster is down to 72 players.
