Jimmy Garoppolo and Ryan Mallett will be the hot topic in the coming days, but there's a lot that goes into a football team's success, or lack thereof.

CSNNE's Phil Perry joined Lou Merloni and Mike Felger on Sports Tonight to discuss who else disappointed and impressed on Thursday night against the Redskins.

"Logan Ryan was a guy I thought struggled tonight," Perry said. "He had a had a really good camp up until tonight. He got burned a couple times tonight on a slant that I thought he should have been able to cover a little bit better. The interior offensive line which I think is a big focus for a lot of people this training camp this summer in general had some trouble early on."

And who improved their stock, according to Perry? He says Malcolm Butler played well. Butler got his chance tonight with some key Pats defensive players sitting out.

And of course Perry doesn't forget Brian Tyms, who finished the night with five catches for 119 yards, including a 53-yard strike and another 26-yard touchdown pass.

"I thought Brian Tyms, who was Jimmy Garoppolo's favorite target there in the 3rd quarter, [impressed]," Perry said. "He's 6-foot-3, he's the biggest receiver on the team, they picked him up off the street a couple weeks ago."

Could Tyms do enough to crack the roster?
