The Patriots defense has struggled getting to the quarterback in recent years, but this season, the Patriots front seven is putting pressure on the quarterback.
Chandler Jones has led the attack, and in their last two games the Patriots have seven sacks.
Paul Perillo on Patriots Football Weekly talked about the improved play of the defensive line.
“One thing that I have seen so far this year that I really like is some stunts that they are playing up front,” Perillo said. “We have seen Chandler Jones move from end to tackle at times, that’s been effective. The Patriots are never going to be a big blitz-happy team, but I like the stunts they are performing right now. Chandler Jones is a guy to keep an eye on, this could be key to the pass rush.”
Rob Ninkovich, who just recently signed a three-year contract extension worth more than $15 million, has become a steady force for the defense.
“Never has a guy deserved it more than Ninkovich,” Perillo said. “I think he’s the most consistent performer in that front seven. He’s a guy that really did it the hard way. He got released a couple times, came to New England in the middle of training camp, found a way to stick around and now he is really an integral part of that defense.”
