FOXBORO -- New England swapped its first-round pick, the 29th overall choice, to Minnesota for a cache of selections on Thursday night.

Whereas the Patriots have stockpiled draft choices in the past, this year they had only picks 29 (first round), 59 (second) and 91 (third) before the abyss of rounds four, five, and six opened up. Their last two picks -- and 226th and 235th overall -- were in the seventh and final round.

Thanks to the trade, things have since filled in nicely. The Vikings surrendered the Nos. 52 (second round), 83 (third), 102 (fourth) and 229 (seventh) overall selections for New England's first-rounder. The Vikings used the pick to take University of Tennessee receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.

The draft resumes Friday at 6:30 p.m.
