While the Patriots offense has ratcheted it up in recent weeks, the defense has struggled to stop opposing offenses.
Bob Neumeier, Mike Felger and Ron Borges on Sports Tonight discussed whether the Patriots defense is good enough to win a Super Bowl.
“I don’t see that, they have too many injuries,” Borges said. “They have too many guys that they really don’t want on the field, no disrespect to them. But this wasn’t the defense that was suppose to exist.”
The defense has suffered several injuries to key players including Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo. Borges said if he could have one of those players back, he would go with Wilfork.
“When I watched the tape of this past game you could see it several times where the defensive end did a good job fighting off a double team but the tackle couldn’t fill the gap and now you have a massive hole there,” Borges said. “And one thing about Vince, even though his play may be slipping a little, you couldn’t move the guy. They really need that to play that kind of defense.”
