The Patriots didn’t get the “move” tight end or a Gronk backup during the draft.
But when it ended, New England moved quickly to secure the services of Justin Jones, a tight end so large he can eat beans off Gronk’s head.
Jones, from East Carolina, is 6-foot-8, 277 pounds. Field Yates of ESPNBoston.com was the first to report Jones’ agreeing to terms with New England.
Why’d the big fella go undrafted? He didn’t play his final season for the Pirates after being ruled ineligible.
If you want to watch a bunch of his snaps from a couple games, here they are. Lumbering. A little tentative and seems oblivious to defenders and is just running to spots without a lot of awareness. Certainly terrific body control and unmistakeable size.
In short? They never should have released Zach Sudfeld.
