A source confirms reports the Patriots have signed OL Jamey Richard. The move maxes out the roster to its 90-man limit.
Richard is a 6-5, 295-pound former seventh round pick by the Colts in 2008. He started 11 of the 48 games he played in four seasons, playing both center (filling in while Jeff Saturday recovered from a knee injury) and left guard.
He had surgery to repair his left hip labrum in February of 2011. Inconsistency seems to limit his playing time more than injuries.
There's some need in New England, as Logan Mankins is missing OTAs to recover from knee surgery and Brian Waters likely won't show up until training camp. Free agent acquisition Robert Gallery stood in for Mankins and Ryan Wendell for Waters in Thursday morning's session.
