Stop us if you've heard this one before: The Patriots are adding a veteran defensive lineman into the fold.
After finding value in players like Andre Carter and Mark Anderson in years past, New England will give former Saints defensive end Will Smith a shot, the team announced on Monday.
Smith, 32, was released this offseason by New Orleans. He missed all of the 2013 campaign recovering from a torn ACL suffered in training camp.
For the nine years before last, Smith was extremely durable, playing in at least 14 games every season.
He notched double-digit sacks in 2009 (13.0) and 2006 (10.5), and in 2012 he recorded 6.0 sacks, 58 tackles and had two passes defensed.
