The controversy of last week’s 30-27 Patriots’ overtime loss still lingers.
Chris Jones was called for an unsportsmanlike penalty for pushing a teammate into the offensive line on a field goal attempt, giving New York Jets’ kicker Nick Folk an even closer attempt to kick his game-winning field goal.
Andy Hart and Paul Perillo on Patriots Football Weekly discussed whether the Patriots were robbed for the officials calling Jones for a penalty.
“I’m not going to take the Patriots off the hook and say they were robbed,” Hart said. “They didn’t know the rule, that’s fine. [Bill] Belichick took the fault for it, the responsibility. Move on.”
The officials call on Jones was the first time all season that the new rule was called.
“I find it awfully hard to believe that in seven weeks of football this is the one and only time, in overtime, that this play gets called,” Perillo said. “I find it impossible that this hasn’t been able to be called until now with, let’s face the games on the line.”
