In a surprise move, the Patriots released cornerback Leigh Bodden on Friday morning. The news was first reported by Pro Football Talk, and later confirmed by Bodden's agent.
Bill Belichick declined comment in his Friday press conference.
"We don't have any announcements to make right now," Belichick said.
When asked a question about Bodden's play to this point in the season, Belichick was equally forthcoming.
"I think we'll skip that one for right now," he said.
Bodden was in the second year of a four-year 22 million dollar contract with the Patriots. He had only started one game this season.

Per the source, the player and the team decided that the relationship wasnt working out as planned, and that it was time to move on.

Bodden will now be subject to waivers since the trade deadline has come and gone. If he's picked up, his new team will pay him 2.064 million of the 3.9 million salary is slated to make in 2011.
Rookie corner Ras-I Dowling has been shelved with a hip injury, meaning Kyle Arrington might pick up a heavier workload because of Bodden's departure.
