Kyle Auffray would have been a longshot to make the Patriots roster, but he carried with him some extra intrigue when he was signed last week.
Not only was he the product of a local university -- he finished his college career at University of New Hampshire in 2010 -- but he had experience at multiple positions and took an unusual road to the NFL.
The Patriots announced on Monday that they have released Auffray. At 6-foot-5 and 254 pounds, Auffray was a good athlete but lacked in high-level on-the-field experience. In his senior season at UNH, he had four catches for 34 yards.
New England's roster is now down to 89 players, leaving them room to sign one more. The remaining tight ends on the roster are Rob Gronkowski, Michael Hoomanawanui, DJ Williams and undrafted rookies Asa Watson and Justin Jones.
