According to a Pro Football Talk report, the Patriots find themselves in a grievance hearing this week, during which they will try to block Jonathan Fanene from receiving the remaining portion of a signing bonus he was promised when he joined New England as a free agent last year.

From PFT: The Patriots signed Fanene as a free agent last year, giving him a $3.85 million signing bonus. He received $2.5 million of it, and the team wants to block the rest and recoup “some or all” of the amount already paid.

The team alleges that Fanene has an arthritic left knee, and that he hid from the team the fact that he needs prescription drugs to play. Patriots coach Bill Belichick will be among the witnesses testifying under oath, per PFT.
