Former Colt Joseph Addai, who burst on the scene in Indy in 2006 but has seen his production slip in recent seasons, worked out for the Patriots on Thursday according to a source.

On Friday, the Patriots worked out a pair of veteran free agents, Tim Hightower and Ryan Grant, according to reports.

With BenJarvus Green-Ellis signing with the Bengals as a free agent, the Patriots are now seeking a veteran presence to go along with Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen. Both are second-year players.

Addai played in 12 games last season and just eight in 2010. He ran for 433 yards and one touchdown last year. Addai was due to make 2.9 million from the Colts in 2012 but was released March 9.

He had a hamstring injury and knee injuries in 2012 but he's still young (29 on May 3) and is a decent pass protector and receiver. He ran for more than 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons and was a Pro Bowler in 2007.
