ORLANDO - The New England Patriots have not expressed interest in Maurice Jones-Drew, contrary to reports circulating Monday.
Jones-Drew, the longtime Jaguars back, is a free agent. The Patriots were among four teams mentioned as having inquired about adding Jones-Drew.
I was told Monday night no contact was made by the team.
The Patriots are a team that often gets linked to players, perhaps by agents as a way of kicking up interest among other teams.
Given the tight-lipped nature of New England front office and the Patriots' tendency to tell agents to keep their damn mouths shut if they inquire about a client, it's often a pretty sure sign the Pats aren't in the running for a player when they are cited as being among a group of teams showing interest.
