When the Patriots came in to training camp with a glut of receivers, it appeared as though it might be difficult for Bill Belichick to find roster spots for all of them. One familiar name was cut on Monday.
According to Mike Florio over at Pro Football Talk, Donte' Stallworth has been released.
Stallworth was trying to make a return to the Patriots after being a part of New England's record-setting offense in 2007. He had three catches for 40 yards in Friday's exhibition against the Buccaneers, his best performance of the preseason.
That Stallworth had been returning kicks earlier in training camp seemed to bolster his chances of making the final roster. But he didn't make much of an impression in the return game, and with the arrival of speedster Jeff Demps, Stallworth's value on special teams was likely diminished.
The Patriots have also reportedly released DL Tim Bulman, a product of Boston College and Boston College High School who has spent the last six seasons with the Texans.
