After browsing the free agent guard market for a time, the Patriots have made a purchase.

Tyronne Green, a former fourth-round pick of the Chargers, has agreed to terms with the Patriots. The agreement was announced on the Twitter feed of agents Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod.

The 6-foot-3, 307-pound Green came out of Auburn in 2009. He had 28 starts with the Chargers. He earned the starting left guard job in camp last year, taking over for veteran Kris Dielman. The hope was that Green would flourish and the Chargers would keep him around as Green’s rookie contract expired. That he was allowed to leave San Diego with little effort to keep him around hints at a poor season last year.

Green goes into the mix as a depth player behind Dan Connolly and Logan Mankins.
