NFL Network is unveiling its list of the top 100 players of 2013. It’s a conversation starter, designed to promote debate.

Aaron Hernandez comes in at 77 on the list, four behind Antonio Gates and well ahead of Heath Miller (97) and Dennis Pitta (100) among tight ends.

“When defenses prepare for the Patriots, Hernandez is a guy who makes defensive coordinators think twice about their coverage,” former Titans safety Jordan Babineaux said in the clip announcing Hernandez’ spot. “For the Patriots they have more weapons than some defenses can defend.”

Hernandez is currently coming off shoulder surgery and could begin training camp on the PUP list. The 2013 is a big one for him, given the workload the Patriots would like to see him carry after an injury-marred 2012 season.

“It’s gonna be something to see how well he piggybacks his successes so far,” added Babineaux.

Logan Mankins was the first Patriot to be named to the list. He was ranked No. 82.
