The mood in and around Gillette Stadium is starting to change as the Patriots are preparing to take on the Indianapolis Colts in the Divisional Round on Saturday night.

While the Patriots rested with their first round bye last week, the Colts pulled off the second biggest comeback in playoff history by overcoming a 28-point deficit to win 45-44 over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Devin McCourty joined Tom E. Curran on Quick Slants to discuss the playoff atmosphere and how the Patriots stack up against the Colts.

“It’s playoff time,” McCourty said. “Practice was intense. It’s going to be amped up all week. Guys take the practice field like this is the last time and we don’t know that. I learned that my rookie year when we lost our first playoff game we played in the Divisional Round. After we lost, I was like, ‘Wait, we don’t come back in tomorrow. There is no postgame Monday film.’ You realize that, so you put everything in to it.”

McCourty and the rest of the secondary will have to deal with Colts’ wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, who torched the Chiefs last week for 13 catches for 224 yards and two touchdowns.

“Like we talked about earlier, to me he’s a little similar to a guy like DeSean Jackson,”

McCourty said. “He’s not a bigger guy, nowadays when you see a bunch of huge receivers running around. Smaller guy, but very quick. Fast, can run by anybody in this league.”

It is not just Hilton the Patriots defense has to worry about. They will also go up against one of the top quarterbacks in the league in Andrew Luck.

“I think he has a great sense of being a playmaker,” said McCourty of Luck. “What I loved about watching him this past weekend was he just had a will to win. He was going to do no matter what…. He’s trying to win no matter what. We’re going to have our hands full.”
