The New England Patriots used their survival tactics to pick up a 34-31 win over the Houston Texans last week.
Trailing 17-7 at halftime, the Patriots battled back to improve to 9-3 on the season.
Devin McCourty joined Tom E. Curran on Quick Slants to talk about the second half adjustments, and what Antonio Smith had to say about the Patriots’ win.
“I think coach Belichick handled it the best way,” McCourty said. “You talk about something like that, it is a league matter. That has no bearing on us. When you talk about us, we do like any other team, all week we prepare. Guys watch film, we get ready to go. You know the game is about adjustments. If you go in at halftime and you’re not playing well, you don’t come out the second half and say, ‘Hey, let’s do what we did the first half.’ No, let’s do this and let’s do something better here. It was a tough game and we pulled out and got a victory.”
This Sunday the Patriots host the 4-8 Browns, who might be better than what their record indicates.
“People look at records now and say ‘The Patriots will just go out there and beat Cleveland,’” McCourty said. “That doesn’t matter. Cleveland is going to come in this game and try to get a win. They have been playing good football. They just haven’t been able to squeeze out some wins.”
