Jerod Mayo will have his hands full Sunday when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers come to Foxboro.
For now though, Mayo sat down with Tom E. Curran on Quick Slants to discuss the upcoming matchup.
Mayo and the rest of the Patriots defense will battle the Buccaneers offense led by Josh Freeman.
“Josh Freeman is a big strong quarterback,” Mayo said. “He has a big arm, very mobile in the pocket. Another guy you have to keep an eye on and have 11 people always watching that guy.”
Curran and Mayo also discussed the new rules forcing defenses to adjust how they play.
“Those guys make the rules and you have to adjust your play style to go by those rules,” Mayo said. “You don’t want to get the penalty and hurt your team, you don’t want to get the fine and hurt your pockets.”
Mayo also talked about the defense’s role with the offense struggling so far this season.
“Our mindset on the defensive side of the ball is we have to keep the other team from scoring,” Mayo said. “If they don’t score points they can’t win the game. That has always been our mindset and the offense goes out there and their job is to score points, and that’s what they do. At the end of the day it’s all about wins and losses.”
