Jerod Mayo helped lead the Patriots to a 30-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday.
Mayo and the defense stood up Atlanta’s offense in their first real test of the season to show their play this season is not a fluke.
Mayo sat down with Tom E. Curran on Quick Slants to rehash the defensive effort from Sunday night.
“We had a lot of mental toughness,” Mayo said. “The guys went out there and were able to adjust on the fly. We tried to do a lot of different looks. They showed us a lot of different looks, putting people in different places. It was a tough game, but at the end of the day we got the victory and anytime you can get the victory against a good team like that in the NFL it’s a good thing.”
Mayo also touched upon the injury to Vince Wilfork, as Wilfork will be out the rest of the season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon.
“I think his leadership skills in the locker room,” said Mayo on what the Patriots can’t replace with Wilfork out. “Making sure everyone is on the same page on that front. He brings a lot of energy. He obviously brings a lot of knowledge to the game.”
