Brandon LaFell had a choice.

Wriggle through the space remaining in Tom Brady’s so-called “closing window” or wait for Cam Newton’s window to open?

LaFell picked Brady.

LaFell signed with the Patriots over the weekend ending his four-year stint with the Panthers. Asked Wednesday on a conference call why he lit out for New England, LaFell replied, “Because I had a chance to play with a Hall of Fame quarterback. One day (Panthers quarterback) Cam (Newton) will be there probably but he’s not there now.”

A reporter reminded LaFell that the Panthers were a successful team last season.

“I feel like there was a better chance to come up here now and win as an organization. Nothing against those guys … but it’s proven up here,” he pointed out. “We were winning last year in Carolina, these guys have been winning up here for the last 10-plus years.”

LaFell made an impression against the Patriots last season when he caught seven passes including a touchdown in a win over New England. Brady made an impression on LaFell in the week prior.

“When we was watching film last year before we played those guys, we were saying, ‘Those receivers, man, all they have to do is put their hands up.’ They just put their hands up and the ball was in perfect placement. When you have a guy who can pinpoint the ball the way he does, it’s great.”
