There has been no sophomore slump to speak of for Chandler Jones.

The second-year defensive end is putting together a productive 2013 campaign with 10.5 sacks, and earned AFC Defensive Player of the Month honors this week.

Tom E. Curran joined Trenni Kusnierek on SportsNet Central to discuss Jones’ play so far this season.

“I think he has maintained the level of play that he really started to reach at the end of last year,” Curran said. “And it’s the ability to show consistent levels of effort. He’s unique in terms of what the Patriots defense has had, the ability to hit the accelerator and come off the edge 50, 60 times a game. It’s remarkable.”

With Jones flourishing, Dont’a Hightower a first round pick alongside Jones in 2012, has gone in the opposite direction and has struggled on the field this season.

“When you look at his evolution this season, he went from a guy who had Jerod Mayo riding sidecar with him and helping out with all the communication, suddenly everything was on his plate,” Curran said. “It was a lot for him to really I think process and deal with. “
