You weren't alone in thinking that it's probably better off to not make the Super Bowl at all than to make it and lose like the Broncos did.
The Patriots were one game away from playing the Seahawks themselves, but the Broncos ended up earning the rights to get smacked around in the Super Bowl.
So, if the Pats won . . . would they have suffered the same fate in the same fashion?
Gary Tanguay, Kirk Minihane, and Dan Shaughnessy talked about it on Early Edition.
"Here's my thing, with the Patriots maybe you get to 14 [points], maybe," Tanguay said. "Because I think Brady scraps to it. And Bill does a better job. So it's probably a more respectable loss. Now, if the Patriots are healthy, then maybe you . . . I don't know even then."
Shaughnessy points out that the Broncos also had some injuries, not that it was the reason they lost.
But the Super Bowl once again proved that defense wins championships.
"It does re-establish the fact to me - to me this factor has never gone away - in a Super Bowl, in a big game, you need to get stops," Tanguay said. "Highlight touchdowns don't win. Stops on third down do."
