With Aaron Hernandez, Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd gone, and Rob Gronkowski likely to miss some time coming off surgery this offseason, the Patriots may not be the top-tier team that fans have been accustomed to watching the last few years.
Because of that, reports are saying that teams may be a little more excited to play the Patriots early in the season than they usually are.
This led to a discussion between Gary Tanguay, Michael Felger and Ben Volin on UNO Sports Tonight, where they discussed whether or not the Patriots are more vulnerable this season.
"I think you have to say yeah, just because of everything that's happened this offseason: Welker gone, Gronk surgeries and now Hernandez," Volin said. "But look they're still the Patriots. They still have Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, they still have probably the best offensive line in football, good running game...I think they're defense is gonna be improved this year. Chandler Jones is a year better, I think the secondary is gonna be improved with Aqib Talib, (Devin) McCourty and those guys, the linebackers -- Spikes and Mayo -- they have another year together.
"So yeah, you gotta look at them, they're probably gonna be vulnerable, but the AFC East is gonna be really weak this year."
