After being charged with first-degree murder and five weapons charges, Aaron Hernandez has been erased from two of the biggest football video games of the year. EA Sports removed the former Patriots tight end from NCAA Football 14 and he will not appear in Madden 25, the video game company announced on Monday.
A picture of Hernandez’s "player card" on NCAA Football 14 went viral recently. EA Sports said the card showed up temporarily in the game because of the timing involved with the publishing.
Madden 25 is set to be released at the end of August so all references to Hernandez have been eliminated before the game is made available to the public.
"We made a decision to remove Aaron Hernandez from Madden NFL 25 and NCAA Football 14," a spokesperson for EA Sports told CBSSports.com. "Because NCAA Football 14 was finalized prior to our decision, Hernandez's image still appears in the Nike Skills Trainer. However, he is not in the game, and anyone who unlocks that particular Nike Skills Trainer reward will receive an Alex Smith Ultimate Team player item instead. The image of Hernandez will be removed via a Title Update in the near future."
