In two or three seasons, nobody’s going to give a single crap how much Danny Amendola played in the season opener in Buffalo in 2013. And the fact Amendola will then be 30 and Wes Welker will be 35 will put the move made in March in different context. But fer crissake, the kid didn’t make it through the first half and the confetti cannons lining the “PATRIOTS SCREWED WELKAAHHH OVER” went bananas. Bad look for 80.

Mike Pettine has thrown a nice defense at the Patriots so far, jamming up the outside receivers and clogging things underneath. With Tom Brady working off 3-step drops, the timing’s been off and the offensive line is being put in a spot where they don’t have a lot of room to give.

Terrific first half by the almost-always useful Kyle Arrington. Two forced fumbles, a pass-breakup (near pick). When kept in the role he’s best suited for and not pressed into working the perimeter, he’s a solid player.

The Patriots have given up 14 points off turnovers so far. They allowed 43 in 2012.

Brandon Spikes said he wanted to get in terrific shape working out on his own in Florida. He left the game after one series with dehydration issues. He was back on the field to start the second half.

Stevan Ridley may be in the doghouse for a while, especially with the running back depth the Patriots have at their disposal.
