Greetings from Richmond . . . but also, this is a farewell from Richmond.
The Patriots and Redskins wrapped up their third and final day of joint practices, and will face off for their first preseason game Thursday night.
Well, not everybody will make it. In fact, it sounds like the Skins' best wide receivers will sit the game out, as both Pierre Garcon and Desean Jackson are dealing with injuries.
Tom E. Curran and Mike Giardi check in.
"I think you were definitely looking forward to the idea even if it were 8-10 plays of Revis vs. Desean Jackson or Pierre Garcon, and obviously that doesn't appear to be the case now," Giardi said. "From the Redskins standpoint why would you even risk Jackson if he's a little nicked up at all? This is the preseason, you don't want to get too crazy."
The Patriots are also without a legitimate NFL tight end, as Rob Gronkowski and Michael Hoomanawanui didn't travel with the team, and D.J. Williams suffered a lower-body injury.
That means rookie Justin Jones will get plenty of action.
"He's a little robotic," Curran said. "It'll be interesting to see how the 6-foot-8 rookie can perform."
Giardi says that there's a lack of fluidity at certain points" when it comes to Jones, and he sees him currently as a practice squad guy. But Jones can change that with a solid debut.
