Over the past few years, the area of weakness for the Patriots has always been the defense.

This season, the defense -- at least part of it -- could end up being a major strength.

Fred Smerlas and Bert Breer joined Greg Dickerson on Sports Sunday to discuss the Patriots, and both had some high praises for the Pats' defensive front seven.

"The front seven looks really, really good," Breer said. "You got those two first round picks from last year (Dont'a) Hightower and (Chandler) Jones taking another step forward, that front seven could be really good. Then it's gonna come down to what the weakness has been on this team probably the last seven or eight years, which is the secondary."

Smerlas highlighted the importance of creating a better pass rush up front.

"The big thing is you want to be able to pressure with four guys and not have to blitz Hightower," Smerlas said.
