Felger: Who really drafted Tom Brady?

Share

Michael Felger and Tony Massarotti are talking about a story in the Boston Globe, in which Patriots owner Robert Kraft says Bill Belichick wasn't initially in charge of player personnel when he took over as Patriots coach in 2000.

Belichick "earned his way in" to making player personnel and drafting decisions the owner told the Globe.

Which begs the question? Who then is responsible for drafting Tom Brady in the sixth round in 2000, if Belichick hadn't "earned his way" to making that decision?

Felger points to Larry Cook, who was director of college scouting for the Patriots until 2001. Maybe it was him?

How about the much-maligned Bobby Grier? Grier was fired shortly after the draft in 2000 but is said to be the only NFL personnel executive to contact Brady's college coach, Lloyd Carr.

Should he get the credit?
