The arrest of former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez last week has many wondering about the team's decision to sign him to a lucrative contract extension last August.
On Sports Sunday, Michael Felger, Michael Holley and Lou Merloni discussed whether or not the Patriots have become too lax on players with questionable character. While the three agreed that it would have been tough to envision Hernandez being involved in a murder investigation, they all thought that the Patriots need to tread more lightly in the future.
Felger thought that between the pre-draft scouting and the decision to give Hernandez an extension, something went wrong.
"Someone did not do their job," Felger said.
"I think the Patriots have lost their way a little bit. I think they've gotten drunk off the success."
