FOXBORO -- Julian Edelman took a step forward in his rehab by coming off New England's physically unable to perform list on Thursday. The receiver was indeed on the field in uniform as practice got underway.
A broken foot landed Edelman on injured reserve last December. Though it was reported he was fully healed in April, the one-year contract extension he signed included zero guaranteed money. As it turns out, the Patriots played that one well as the receiver was back in a walking boot one month later and missed all of the team's spring workouts.
Thursday, New England's sixth training camp session, was an important first for Edelman. But he still has a long way to go.
"He wasn't able to do much and he hasn't done anything in camp. I mean he's done work individually with trainers and he watches and goes to meetings, but can't participate in anything. I certainly don't think it puts him ahead," head coach Bill Belichick admitted before practice. "We've got other guys out there who are playing, practicing. So he's got some ground to make up. We'll see how it goes."
