FOXBORO - So, how's the patient? Who knows?

Rob Gronkowski's status for Sunday's game against the Saints was described to me as "unclear right now" by a well-placed source early Friday afternoon.

In the late afternoon, he was officially listed as questionable when the Patriots injury report was released.

Some outlets said Friday that there was less optimism about Gronkowski playing than there had been earlier in the week. Whether Gronkowski somehow exacerbated the left arm which is said to be the source of the issue or if someone is urging more rest is unclear.

"Unclear" has been the operative word in the whole process.

I was assured Friday that Gronkowski's Sunday status will decided by a collaborative group including the Patriots medical staff, celebrated orthopedist Dr. James Andrews and Gronkowski.

Andrews was brought in recently "as a consultant" at the behest of Gronkowski's agent Drew Rosenhaus. Reports that Andrews has "final say" on clearing Gronkowski were disputed, but when he does take the field it will be because all parties are "on the same page."
