The anticipated rock fight is unfolding. A few thoughts from a hard slog at Gillette.
* The Patriots were 0-for-8 on third down to close the half. Brady’s blown his lid a number of times and his patience is gone. He looks like a Bobby Hurley/John Lackey/Dan Marino combo on some of the incompletions, most prominently an incompletion on third down in the red zone when he skipped a pass at Aaron Dobson’s feet. Either Dobson or Julian Edelman was, in Brady’s mind, supposed to hit the brakes and sit down. It wasn’t all on the receivers though. Brady missed Dobson on a deep throw down the right sideline on third-and-1 and Dobson later saved Brady with a terrific catch reaching back across his body.
* Edelman’s handled the ball 12 times -- seven catches, a run and four punt returns. Edelman’s been thrown to 12 times by Brady.
* The Patriots have managed just six first downs so far. There have been 11 punts between the two teams. The Jets actually have a six-minute edge in time of possession.
* Chandler Jones and Michael Buchanan have provided a nice pass-rush on Geno Smith. Jones continues to be a factor rushing from a three-technique (between the guard and tackle). The Patriots defense has been pretty good.
