Now that the Patriots are operating in a world in which they admit they were "duped" in the past by former tight end and alleged murder Aaron Hernandez, the natural tendency will be to tread lightly with players exhibiting character risks going forward.
That's exactly what Patriots Insider Tom E. Curran said New England would do with receiver Kenny Britt, who made a visit to Foxboro on Monday.
Britt has had nine known run-ins with law enforcement in his five-year career, ranging from reckless driving to possession to driving under the influence and being uncooperative with police who were investigating the stabbing of his brother.
How do you think the Patriots should handle free-agents with Britt's history? Ignore them altogether? Give them a chance to prove themselves? Let us know with a comment.
