FOXBORO - "You are what your record says you are" has been an excellent antiseptic for woulda's, coulda's and shoulda's.
But Sundays game between the Jets and Patriots can go down as the most effective refutation of that Parcellsian saw.
The records say the Jets and Patriots are of similar quality. They are not. These two 3-3 teams are similar the same way South Beach and South Hadley are similar. In name alone.
The Patriots three losses are by a total of four points. The Jets? 56. The Patriots do a number of things really well but have had their Achilles Heel exposed a couple of times and they've lost.
The Jets don't do much well. But they've dodged bullets (OT in Miami) and beaten bad teams to emerge with the same record as New England after six games.
The Patriots should cruise. If they don't, if they lose, a true bunker mentality will be in effect.
