For the last few seasons, the Patriots defense has had its share of ups and downs. But with an experienced group coming into this season, the defense is looking to take another step in its development.

CSNNE.com's Patriots Insider Tom E. Curran talked about the defense prior to Friday's preseason game against the Eagles, and said improvements need to come from "all over the defense."

"Who will be the playmakers in the 2013 Patriots defense? Because it's nice when you make a team matriculate the ball down the field with success, and getting them to shoot themselves in the foot, but you also have to have guys that are gonna create havoc and have that uncertainty," Curran said. "The Patriots are excellent at creating turnovers. Who will it be this year? Hopefully they can get somebody in the secondary to do that."
