NFL free agency will officially open on Tuesday afternoon, although "legal tampering" has been allowed for a few days.

Patriots Insider Tom E. Curran and Greg Bedard from the Boston Globe joined Gary Tanguay to discuss Welker's situation and what we can expect once free agency begins.

Curran says he's talked to people who say it's a  down market for Welker because of his age, wear and tear, and being in a specific system.

Bedard notes that the two sides were very close last year, and that should help negotiating this time around.

"They got very close last offseason to getting this deal done," Bedard said. "So they know where to start from, it's just closing it down."

Bedard also used the Colts as an example of a team that could suit Welker well, and could make things interesting in terms of Welker returning.

Curran agreed with Bedard on that point.

"Andrew Luck is the most perfect suitor for him," Curran said. "Peyton Manning to a lesser degree, because Andrew Luck has some ability to move, find him in the flat as he's running with him. I think that Brady and Luck are the two best options for him otherwise he turns into a 63-catch, 670-yard guy. He's just an accessory someplace else."
