The New England Patriots have decisions to make on how they want to handle Peyton Manning and the rest of the Denver Broncos high-powered offense.
The defense will have to deal with Manning first and whether or not to blitz a quarterback that hasn’t been sacked off a blitz all season.
Chris Gasper joined Gary Tanguay and Mike Felger on if the Patriots should blitz Manning.
“You’re making to too easy for him,” said Gasper if the Patriots blitz. “You’re making it easy for him to decipher what you are doing. I think you have to do a better job of disguising it. There are ways to bring pressure with only four guys, but make it look like you are bringing more. Look, he’s seen everything. The bottom line is you have to spin the dial as they say and hope for the best.”
Felger also believes that to slow down Manning, it all starts with the secondary and the coverage of Manning’s receivers.
“Back in the good old days, when you did stop this player, it always started with coverage,” Felger said. “You didn’t blitz him back in ’03 and ’04 and those years. You beat the crap out of the receivers which you can’t do anymore.”
