With a rash of injuries on the defensive side, the New England Patriots are looking for someone to step up and fill some of the void. The Patriots were hoping second-year linebacker Dont’a Hightower could be that player, but Hightower’s play in recent weeks has been a disappointment.
After a subpar performance versus the Broncos last week, Hightower didn’t do anything to help out his cause with another below average showing against the Texans.
Michael Felger, Ty Law, and Troy Brown discussed what Hightower could do to get back on track.
“I just want to see that high-motor,” Brown said. “If you give up a play, get there man. Finish the play. Make it. Chase somebody down. Run across the field like [Luke] Kuechly out of Carolina. Finish the play. Be a high-motor guy like that.”
All the injuries to the defense have exposed Hightower, especially when Jerod Mayo was lost for the season.
“When the top guys go down, now we are going to see what you’re made of as a player,” Law said. “We’re going to see why they drafted you that high. And he’s proven management, he’s proven coach Belichick, and he’s proven everybody wrong.”
