One of the big stories of the Patriots long, story-filled offseason has been the July 11 arrest of cornerback Alfonzo Dennard on suspicion of DUI. And one of the big talking-points within that story – will Dennard be cut by the Patriots as a result?
Well, it’s been 11 days and counting, and Alfonzo Dennard is still a member of the New England Patriots. And with potential revocation of his probation, which he had been serving from being convicted of assaulting a police officer, the skies are a little gloomy for the 23-year old.
The big issue with the Patriots cutting ties with Dennard is the fact he is so valuable to the Patriots defense. Losing him could create a gaping hole in the team’s secondary.
“With a guy like [Dennard] who’s a starter,” said Albert Breer on Sports Sunday, “I think they started to look at that logic and said ‘well, I’m not going to screw over the rest of my team because this kid slipped up.’”
