Tom Brady is expecting his old buddy Wes Welker to be in action on Sunday night when the Broncos visit the Patriots.

"I've been around him long enough to know what he's all about," Brady told WEEI's Dennis and Callahan Show on Wednesday morning. "He loves playing football, and if there's a chance for him to play, especially coming back here, he's definitely going to be out there. I've got no question about that."

Brady said he hasn't heard from Welker on whether or not the slot receiver will play in the first meeting between the Patriots and Broncos since this past offseason when Welker was acquired by Denver as a free agent.

"No, no he didn't do that," Brady said. "But it would take an awful lot for him to miss the game."

Welker took a blow to the head in Denver's win on Sunday over the Chiefs. He came out of the game briefly, but reentered. Eventually he left the field for good with a concussion.

By rule, Welker will not be allowed to fully participate in Broncos practice until Friday after undergoing a baseline concussion test on Monday.

ESPN has reported that Welker is expected to play, though no determination as to Welker's status has been announced by Broncos officials.
