FOXBORO -- After a study was published on ESPN.com suggesting that Tom Brady was no longer a top-five quarterback earlier this month, stuff hit fans throughout New England.

Brady's play in various situations came under the microscope. How does he do with pressure up the middle? How does he do throwing the deep ball?

The selection of Jimmy Garoppolo in the second round became even more highly-scrutinized.

So how did Brady respond on Wednesday after a mini-camp practice when he was asked if those kinds of critics -- the ones who think his play may be fading -- "fire him up?"

He laughed.

"Umm, I’m always pretty fired up so, I think there’s people that always have opinions about us as athletes," Brady said. "You just try to go out there and do your best and go home and hope that you left it all on the field.

"Some days you don’t play your best, but that’s sports. I’ll try to go out there and be the best I can be this year. Were they Jets fans, or Dolphins fans, or Bills fans? Patriot fans? I don’t know. Everyone’s a little biased."

Brady made it to the AFC Championship Game with a banged-up group of receiving options and a defense that had lost three starters due to injury. It was a good season by many measures.

Of course Brady would have liked to have won two more games. But after Wednesday's workout, he didn't seem all that concerned about what others were writing about him in the offseason.

"My wife thinks I play pretty good, my mom thinks I play pretty good," he said, "so that doesn’t matter."
