FOXBORO -- Bill Belichick explained that the players who aren't on the field for minicamp are already behind. But what about those who missed the weeks of voluntary workouts that preceded minicamp?
Only one Patriot fell under that category -- linebacker Brandon Spikes -- and Belichick had little to say about it.
"It is what it is. We all know what the rules and the guidelines are, and that's what they are."
Let's say Spikes sees fewer snaps at the start of the regular season. One might assume he's being punished for working out by himself instead of his teammates during OTA's. But has he fallen out of favor with his coaches? Or is a different linebacker, one who showed up every day and kept pace, being rewarded independently instead?
Belichick, again, kept his feelings out of it: "It is what it is. We don't make the rules."
