FOXBORO -- Denver's loss to San Diego Thursday night had legitimate playoff implications.

The Patriots can now capture the AFC's No. 1 seed. If New England wins this weekend at Miami, then at Baltimore, and closes out at home against Buffalo, it can claim home field advantage in the postseason.

But Bill Belichick didn't blink when prompted Friday about his team's position.

"There's nothing we can do about anything except what we do, so I don't really care about anybody else," the coach shrugged.

The Broncos fell to 11-3 with the defeat. New England is a half-game back at 10-3 and possesses the head-to-head tiebreaker with Denver thanks to a November win at Gillette.

The Patriots now control their own fate and can start down the right path by clinching the AFC East in Miami on Sunday. And that's as far ahead as Belichick will allow his team to look. The Dolphins are riding a two-game winning streak and desperate to claim their own playoff bid.

"They're a good football team and they always play us well down there," Belichick insisted. "So I never really look forward to that. They're a good, competitive, tough football team and I know we're going to get a great effort from them. I never look forward to that game."
