Bill Belichick will hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon at Gillette Stadium, his first public appearance since former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested on a murder charge.
The Pats coach will meet with reporters at 2 p.m. Players report to Gillette for the opening of training camp on Thursday, with last year's captains -- Jerod Mayo, Vince Wilfork, Tom Brady, Logan Mankins, Devin McCourty and Matthew Slater -- scheduled to be available to the press. Practice sessions, most of which will be open to the public, begin Friday at 9 a.m.
The Patriots issued a statement announcing Hernandez's release the day he was taken into custody by police, and later held a "jersey buyback" in which anyone could trade a Hernandez Patriots jersey for the jersey of another Pats player. When team owner Robert Kraft returned from business in Europe, he met with a small, select group of print reporters and discussed the Hernandez case.
Wednesday will be Belichick's first opportunity to address the issue.
