UPDATE: Bill Belichick gave an update on Vince Wilfork's status when he spoke to WEEI this afternoon during his weekly interview with the radio station.

“It doesn’t look too good for Vince,” Belichick said. “I think he’s got a pretty serious injury and it’s probably unlikely that he’ll be able to play again this year.”

“Clearly, there are no Vince Wilforks just standing around out there on the corner waiting to sign with the Patriots or some other NFL team,” Belichick added. “He is a special player, one of the very best at his position. There’s no way that you would replace him with one guy, that’s totally unrealistic. But we’ll try to do what we can to make our team as competitive as possible with the 46 guys we put out there against Cincinnati this Sunday.”

While reports have Vince Wilfork out for the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles tendon, Patriots coach Bill Belichick spoke in a conference call on Monday morning, and said he doesn't know much about Wilfork's status just yet.

"I don't really have a lot of new information on that," said Belichick. "We'll just have to see how things turn out here. He's an outstanding player. We all know that. He gives us great leadership. He's a strong contributor on and off the field, in the locker room and everything else. We'll just have to see how things come together for him. Obviously if he's not there, then everybody will have to pull a little bit more weight on their end."

Belichick was pressed about the specific report that Wilfork had torn that Achilles, but Belichick continued to say he does not yet know how bad the injury is.

"I really don't have a lot of information here," said Belichick. "We got back late last night. I know they're going to look at him and do some tests this morning. That's really about all I know. I haven't heard anything more about that. I'm not sure exactly what the status of that is. But thats pretty common after every game. You get back here late off the road, and whatever the injury is, they have to get it treated or sometimes get it looked at in a little more detail.

"I really don't know much right now," he added. "I really don't know much. I haven't had a chance to meet with our medical people. And I don't even know what they've done yet. So, I'm just trying to get caught up on all I need to do and it will all come together here during the day."
