The Seahawks are putting the finishing touches on a deal with pass-rushing maniac Jared Allen, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.
That puts the Patriots -- who didn’t appear to be in the Allen business anyway -- looking at mid-tier guys in free agency if they want to sign a situational pass-rusher as they often do.
Shaun Philips and Robert Ayers, who both played last year for the Broncos, remain as free agents.
The 6-foot-3, 274-pound Ayers is 28 and had 5.5 sacks last season as a situational guy with Denver.
Philips, though older, might be more attractive. He’s undersized and came up as an outside linebacker with the Chargers in their 4-3. He is, for a 255-pound player, very productive. He had 10 sacks, a pick and two forced fumbles last season.
