The Cleveland Browns selected Johnny Manziel with the No. 22 overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday. But even if Manziel had lasted to No. 29, the Patriots likely wouldn't have gone near him, according to a document posted on BroBible.com.
The website says that the document is a scouting report from the Patriots, passed along from a member of the organization via a tipster. The team's logo appears at the top -- although the logo used is dated -- and it reads like a scouting report.
Whether or not it is what it claims to be is another story. We're working to determine its legitimacy.
The most salacious portions of the report pertain to Manziel's character. One entry says that Manziel shuts down if he's being yelled at. Another portion of the report says that Manziel doesn't study the game and was "said to know about 60% of the offense in '12." Phrases like "knows how to scheme the system" and "arrogant and full of himself" dot the report as well.
If it's legitimate, the report confirms some of that which was said about Manziel leading up to the draft: Some teams believe he's a me-first guy who may require "maintenance" as a pro.
If the report came from the brain trust at Patriots Place, it would only give that pre-draft commentary added credence.
